Every rosy boa enthusiast knows about the Limburg line of rosy boas; namely the albino rosy. But did you know that there are many other morphs in the Limburg line? There’s the anerythristic Limburg; a rosy boa with a total lack of red pigment. This boa has a slate grey appearance all over it’s body, with a light pattern. If you’ve been keeping up with genetics, you know that combining the albino gene and the ‘anery’ gene together produces a combination ready to produce a pure white animal: or a ‘snow’.

Introducing the Limburg snow rosy boa. This snake is produced by breeding two Limburg strain rosy boas that have both the albino and anery genes. This boa is called a double heterozygous (het) snow.

Double hets look just like a ‘normal’ phase snake: but don’t let their physical appearance fool you. Heterozygous snakes carry the genes necessary to produce a homozygous animal. A homozygous snake dons the physical appearance of the genetic trait that they possess (the albino Limburg would be an example of this). So, breeding a double het snake with another double het has the capability of producing four different kinds of homozygous animals: albino, anery, normal, and snow.

With that in mind, you can use a double het Limburg snow for many projects. One male can mate with multiple females a year. You can breed him with a female Limburg albino or anery to produce more homozygous animals that look like the mothers, and all of the offspring would be 50% possible het for snow. A male like this is a great addition to any breeder’s collection.

Jurassic Reptiles currently has some double het Limburg snows available. If you want to produce your very own Limburg snows, now is a great time to get started! Click here to view our currently available rosy boas.
